We landed in Kona, and we had a couple of people that Sean met while he was here in April offer to pick us up and take us to Hilo. Seriously, the people here are so nice! So we loaded up all of our stuff into the back of their truck, filled their cab with our family, and they rode in the bed with the stuff. Ha. Seriously. The people here are amazing.
We drove straight from the airport to our new home! It made for a long drive, but the destination was worth it. The rental is absolutely perfect for us! We truly feel so blessed to have landed this site unseen. (We did have Annie and Alex, the people who Sean stayed with in April, come check it out for us beforehand. They were spot on with their feelings on it!)
We don't know exactly when it was built, but it's an old plantation home, inclusive of a bomb shelter under the carport that was used during World War II. The door is boarded off so we can't go explore down there, but we are really curious to check it out!
Our house sits on 27 acres. We have discovered lilikoi, avocado, banana, and mango on the property. We also have a hunting blind out there (for pig hunting, we're assuming), and a small creek that flows when it has rained.

There was one day where Asher wanted to go exploring in the woods, but I had to work so couldn't go with him. He didn't want to go alone because he was afraid of getting lost, so I gave him a walkie talkie and kept one for myself, and sent him on his way. I told him to check in every so often so that I knew he was safe. He kept chiming in "Mom, I'm entering the forest." "Mom! There's a banana tree out here!" When Brayden realized how fun it was going to be, he joined Asher out there. I think it's pretty cool that they have each other to explore the woods with. They even have a tree fort out there :)

Yes, I realize this post is really scattered. Oh well!
Mavi was gifted this bike by Lauren, our friend that lived down the street from us in Aloha. From the second he got it, he loved it so much. We couldn't not bring it with us! As soon as it got to our house, he got on it, and didn't get off for a good two hours. It helped that the house was totally empty and he had free reign! He loves that thing!
Asher didn't waste any time testing out the sturdiness of the walls.
Our house has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a really good sized laundry room. So big in fact, that we have also deemed that the toy room. I love not having toys all over my living room all the time!
On our first Saturday here, we went to the famous Hilo Farmer's Market. Asher used his own money and bought a pocket knife. After a knife safety lesson from Dad, his favorite recess activity is whittling white light sabers!
We attended our ward on that first Sunday, and walked into the Primary room to this...
...four other kids in the primary! Which actually, there were visitors so there really were only two (junior and senior primaries combined!) from the ward there that Sunday. Our family doubled the size of the primary! Mavi is in nursery with one other boy. I did think it was so cute that they gave the boys all leis. They still have them and love them!
I got a lei in Relief Society as well. The Hawaiian culture is so beautiful, and I am really loving experiencing it and learning all about it!
Okay, so our car situation... We were told it would get here Tuesday, the same day we got in. When we landed though, it was still not on the Island and they could only tell us it was "en route from Honolulu" and that they'd let us know when it got here. So right after we got to Hilo on Tuesday, Sean went with Matt and Christine (who drove us from Kona) to go figure out a rental car situation for us. We were able to rent a minivan (miraculously) and were able to use that until we got our sequoia...which ended up being 6 days later! We really were not anticipating that added expense, but are grateful that we had a car that would legally and safely fit all of us while we made our dozens of trips into town!
For FHE, we went to Rainbow Falls, which is about 15 minutes from our house. The boys got to run around and play and hike up to the lookout (you can kind of see it in the top left of the picture.) They love the outdoors here!
Sean found a dresser on Craigslist that we were interested in and went to go get it. It turns out that it was a family moving back to the mainland and they had a bunch of furniture. Sean came home with a coffee table, two desks, a dresser, two white cabinet drawer thingys and two of these white shelves, which have been so perfect for homeschool! Mavi had fun playing with them before we filled them up!
