Chattertons Came!
Our good friends from Portland, the Chattertons, came to visit us! They were here for a couple weeks and we absolutely loved every second of it. The kids had school a lot of the days they were here but we made the most of our time with them! Hapuna Beach and Narnia are a couple of our highlights, along with good food, science experiments, and spending Thanksgiving together. Our steak and shrimp dinner was a huge hit. They treated us to the most delicious apple pies ever. We sure do miss having them here! They were such gracious guests and we really loved having them in our home. And, watching Asher and Tommy rekindle their relationship was my favorite part of all of it.

Also, see all those clothes? Except for Sean's outfit and my shirt, Claire picked out and bought everything and brought it with her. I just PayPal'd her money and voila! No work on my part and I'm so happy with them! Except, I somehow managed to get out the door without Brayden's shirt so Brayden is wearing Everett's and Everett is wearing Turner's t-shirt. Ha. Dang. It was a nice attempt though anyway!

October 2018 | Part 1
It is October 14 and I am blogging about October. Holy smokes. Am I actually caught up on this thing?
We are loving having Sean home.
Asher and Everett got their third black strip in Kajukenbo! They are learning so fast and growing so much and are loving it. I wish we would have started this three years ago!
Sean cleans up nicely! Funny story: we were at a ward party the other day and Sean hadn't been to a church function with us in a long time. He was dressed nicely since he had just come from work and one of the kapunas in the ward came up to me and whispered: "Is that a new guy?" I joked with her and told her "I traded up" but then assured her that it wasn't, that that was, in fact, my husband. He had just cut his hair and wasn't wearing board shorts! She was a good sport with it and was happy to see him!
Claire and her boys came!! And Her sister and brother-in-law, Tressie and Matt, joined them. They were here October 4 - October 8 and we gave them an adventure. They got in about 6 pm, and by 9 pm, Matt was in bed but Claire, Sean, Tressie and I were sitting around the table. Sean heard the big cage drop and he had caught a pig! Sean runs out to see his catch and Claire, Tressie and I followed to watch the action. Well, it was a little more action than we were anticipating.
The pig had broken the trap off of the stakes and it was just running around free with the cage on his back. Sean jumped on top to try to stop him from getting away, but the pig was strong. Sean knew that we had to do something, and fast. He was yelling at me to go get his sword (his machete from Tyler that looks like a sword) and I was running around using my cell phone light trying to find it. I couldn't find it but Sean was getting worn out riding the pig cage. Tressie and I jumped on top of the cage while Claire held lights out for us and Sean went and found a knife he could use to kill the pig.
Even with Tressie and I on top of the cage, we still had to hold the sticks and stakes and trees to try to keep the pig from moving us around. It was an adrenaline rush! Sean finally found a knife and long story short, was able to kill the pig. We all went inside while he gutted it and hung it, then he had a couple friends up to help butcher it the following morning.
Welcome to Hawaii! We don't do this resort-style. We do this Hilo style! Ha. Rugged, adventurous, and raw.
While they were visitng we were able to go to Richardson, Carlsmith, Rainbow Falls, Farmer's Market, Shave Ice, a delicious fresh seafood food truck, the zoo in the rain, and a few other places. They got to see turtles, so they were happy! Oh, and we went to dinner at Pineapples and wowzas. Best fish and chips ever. I can't wait to go back and order those again. Amazing!
Sean picked a couple racks of bananas and our avocado tree is in season so we had plenty of fresh fruit while they were here!
Spoiler: our photo shoot ended up with us in the water. And, Claire is a WIZARD photo editor. Despite hundreds of people being there, we are the only ones in our photos post-processing! I'll post a few photos in the next post. I love them so so much!!!
There was a giant praying mantis in our living room and we had fun finding him every day. Finally, the boys put him in a jar and let him outside. Hope he lives a good life! He was a fun pet for three days.
Claire and I got to go on a run up the hill. Neither of us had run in so long but it was so fun leaving for a bit and doing that. I love that Brayden is old enough that he can hold down the fort while we escape for a few minutes!
We were so sad to see them go, but had such a blast watching our boys all play together. I am glad that they have such a solid relationship even though this is really the first time they have been old enough to really appreciate the friendship that their mothers are forcing on them :)
This gecko had a freaky tail!
Last week at scouts the boys made these bamboo fishing poles then this week, during Fall Break, they were able to go to Cocos and try them out. They didn't catch anything, but their leader did! And we saw a puffer fish so that was fun.
Brayden made lemon bars all on his own and they were so yummy. That kid has a skill!!
