The Janeway Family Blog: September 2012

Today was Brayden's first day of kindergarten! I woke up at 6 to get a quick run in before the family woke up, and Brayden had come into our room in the middle of the night and fell asleep on the floor right in front our bedroom door. I tried to move him so he wouldn't wake up, but no such luck. He was up! He said he'd stay laying in my bed til I got back from my run, and he did! But, the second he heard the front door open, he was running downstairs saying "I need to hurry and eat so I'm not late!" I made him hot cereal for breakfast, and the second he was done he hurried and got dressed and put on his shoes. He was sad when I told him we had to wait a whole hour before we could go! I packed him a banana and dried blueberries for lunch, and after a Father's Blessing, family prayer, and a pow-wow over what he'd expect, we were off!

There are 3 kids in our complex that are in the Spanish Immersion program with Brayden, as well as his best friend Jackson! We all got very lucky. We had a little entourage on our walk to school, which is 2 blocks away. It was so fun to see all of these excited little kids!

We walked into the classroom, and Brayden found his name on the desk. He sits at a table with all girls in the back right corner. He had a gigantic smile on his face the entire time. After we showed him where to stow his backpack, he said "K, Mom and Dad, time for you to go so I can learn!" His enthusiasm for life is contagious, and I am so glad that this transition for him wasn't really a transition! I hope this excitement for school lasts for the next 20 years!
