Projects with Natalie

Natalie came to visit me this week. She got here Monday, and we had so much fun! So much fun, in fact, that she was supposed to leave Thursday but she decided to stay until after Brayden's Birthday party on Saturday. (That post is coming!)

We had a couple projects planned and they turned out great!!  I saw this project online and I wanted to try it out. So we did!

Here is the spread of the papers that I chose for my wreath. There is one paper not shown, that we had already cut up.
After you cut all of the papers into strips, you roll them on a dowel and glue them together. We then pinned them until they were dry so they wouldn't unroll. A total of 111 paper strips per wreath! Our fingers were pretty raw by the end of all of this!

After you roll all of the strips, you glue gun them to a styrofoam wreath. We later discovered that I mismarked some of Natalie's papers so we applied them wrong. However, we love it and decided that we wouldn't change it back even if we could! Anyway, this first layer is supposed to be all the same length.

This is after 2 of the 3 layers are applied.

The finished product. We put the blue on the wall because my yellow wreath got lost on the white walls. I love how they turned out though!!
We had a ton of fun working on this project together. We bonded and watched chick flicks and ate our new favorite ice cream. Umpquaa Chocolate Brownie Thunder. YUMMM!!

When we were done with the wreaths, we made 12x12 wall hangings to put in Natalie's room. They turned out really cute! We used modge podge and applied 12x12s to doubly thick foam core. Super easy, but they will all look fantastic together in her apartment.

Tuesday night, we took a break from rolling and decided to make Roasted Red Pepper Sauce with Seasoned Chicken, over noodles. It was delicious!! A lot of people have asked me for the recipe, so here it is.

5 cups chopped bell peppers.
2 cups chopped onion
garlic, to taste
1-14 ounce can diced tomatoes
2 cups chicken base
2 cups whipping cream
corn starch

Sautee the veggies in olive oil. When they are almost completetely sauteed, add diced tomatoes. Finish sauteeing. Add chicken base (I just used water and 2 bouillon cubes) and bring to a boil. Turn down the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.

After it's done simmering, pour it into a blender and blend until smooth. Return to pan and slowly add cream. Bring to a boil and thicken with cornstarch. Season to taste with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Voila! A delicious, extremely versatile meal.
We cubed chicken and cooked it with minced garlic, marjoram, rosemary, sage, parsley, basil and thyme. Then served it over fun noodles! The next day we ate the sauce over quinoa which we decided we liked a lot better. We also decided that this would make a really good soup! If we ate it as a soup we would possibly add corn, but this would be delectible with grilled cheese!

While Natalie was here she also helped me a ton with Brayden's birthday party. She helped me make the game we played, and she helped a ton helping me with decorations! We went to a store (Joann's, WinCo, Costco, Target) at least once a day, but usually twice and we stayed up way too late every night! We really did have so much fun though. I can't wait until she can come back down and visit with me again! We already have our next couple projects planned. Stay tuned!

Stockings!

So, on Tuesday night I finished my stocking that I was working on! Yay! Just in time to get one for the baby and get it done in 6 months...yeah right...

Copper

So I'm sure most of you have heard about the value of copper these days, and how people have been known to go to live telephone poles and try to cut the copper cabeling, only to be electrocuted to their death. Not so smart... My dad recently closed the doors on his electrical contracting company he owned and ran for 20+ years. He had some left over wire that needed to be recycled. However, the copper is worth twice as much if it's stripped from inside the rubber tubing...so, while Sean and I were up in WA this past weekend, we along with my mom, dad, sister, and brother started stripping the wire. It took us about 3 hours to finish it (my mom had been working on it slowly through the week prior.) After we were all done my dad and I took it to the recycling company in Enumclaw. We had hoped to get a couple hundred dollars for it, because the money that we got from this is all going to help pay for our family vacation this summer. It turns out that we got a little over $1000 for it! Welcome Saddlebag Island and 4 days of camping, crabbing, boating and bonfire-ing!!

Everett "Kamalani" Bradford Janeway

This past Sunday was a very special day for Everett. We didn't expect it to be, but it was. Auntie Shellie Nangayan is an Auntie in ...
